"Rock Around the Clock"
Bill Haley & His Comets
This entire piece is very upbeat and would be great for big line or big group dances. It starts out by counting up the "clock" and then the lyrics talk about having fun and dancing. The song seems to be written in a night setting as it mentions rocking around the clock til "broad daylight." One thing that I liked about the background music was the stop-time like rhythms throughout the entire song. The band follows the same rhythm together throughout the song causing there to be many parts without music in the song which adds to this energy. I loved hearing the electric guitar and how it connects to both the band and the lyrics. This song has many parts to it but all are pieced together that it keeps the energy and same feel throughout the whole piece.
I would say this song is written for younger adults or teenagers to dance to in big group settings. I was surprised that there were many different verses of this piece and how long it kept going. Another thing that surprised me was simply the introduction to the piece, it starts by the crooner just talking and then all the sudden the band all joins in and the song begins. It also reminded me of "dancing around the Christmas tree," the popular Christmas song. Altogether, I can see how teens would like this song and why it became so popular in the time, because it has so much energy and such fun rhythms.
Hi Hailey! I loved your analysis on this song! I enjoyed how you connected it to the Christmas song “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree”, because I can totally hear that. I also liked when you talked about the stop-times and the different instruments used. Overall, this piece was analyzed super well and done very thoughtfully, good job!
ReplyDeleteHey Hailey! I really liked how deep you went on your analysis. You did great! I liked what you said about how the piece has many parts to it, but all together it has an amazing energy! Because it's so true! Each part is special and cool and different on it's own but put it together and it just jumps up to a whole new level :)
